HTH Guiding Principles for Distance Learning This framework for Distance Learning is guided by our design principles of equity, personalization, authentic work and collaboration. We ask all of our community to remember why we became educators: to support children and the communities they (and we) live in. We aspire to craft distance learning experiences that continue to encourage community, connectedness, personalization, academic growth, and equity. When Distance Learning is activated due to a community crisis requiring school closures, we must also be mindful of and responsive to the diverse challenges that our educators and families may be experiencing.

Global Online Academy
We have all been tracking the spread of COVID-19, and we’ve been speaking with our community of schools to learn about what impact this is having on them and their students, how they’re handling the disruption, and what they need moving forward. What we’re finding is that there are a range of needs for both students and educators—some of whom are struggling and others who are thriving. We would like to help all our students have a positive learning journey until this ends. Over the past nine years, GOA has identified and trained educators in best practices for remote learning.
Flexibility, Wellness, Sustainability: GOA’s Review of School Schedules for Learning Online
In early April 2020, GOA conducted a survey of independent and international schools, hoping to gather data about how they were approaching schedule and grading policy while learning online during the COVID-19 crisis. The goal was to gather and share information in an organized way during a time of rapid, challenging change. In our many conversations with educators and school leaders, schedule and grading were two topics where they were eager to learn from each other.
Graded School of Sao Paulo - Distance Learning
Graded recognizes the value of in-person, relationship-based learning and acknowledges that distance learning is not intended to serve as replacement but rather in times of necessity, can be utilized to leverage value learning away from school. The distance learning plan provides guidelines and insights about how Graded faculty will utilize digital and experiential learning away from campus. At the core of Graded’s approach to distance learning is the belief we should think differently about our priorities when responding to challenging circumstances, and we should embrace new opportunities for students to learn in authentic, meaningful ways.
Remote Learning at CWA
We recognize our responsibility to students and families during this uniquely challenging time, so our format will be shifting. School will continue. Our remote learning program isn’t designed to replicate the on-campus experience exactly, but we will maintain our commitment to nurturing and challenging students. We believe students need structure and routine, as well as engagement and connection. All our students will engage with their teachers four or five days a week – in classes, in small groups, and all remotely. Much of the work will be done asynchronously – meaning that students work on their own time, such as conducting research, engaging in learning apps, reviewing recorded lectures, or collaborating with peers. The program also includes synchronous work, meaning the teacher and students will work together at the same time. This is a good time to review material, introduce new work, ensure they’re on the same page and build connections. As students get older, the amount of time spent online synchronously increases, with additional supplements for students enrolled in AP courses.
GEMS Dubai Academy Remote Learning
At Dubai American Academy, we are committed to delivering a high-quality education and fulfilling our mission for our learners. We are relentless to establish effective means to do so under circumstances that may require a full campus closure. In such conditions, our commitment is to provide an alternative means of education in the form of a Remote Learning Plan. The RLP outlines the experience that students will have when school remains in session, but when students are unable to physically attend school because of campus closure. While an RLP cannot replicate onsite learning, our teachers can deliver powerful instruction that allows students to meet expected standards in an online environment.
